Art of the title

What are the conventions of thriller movies?

Nerve

00.03
By making the audience wait, this creates a atmosphere of tension.

00.06
Introduction of Directors.

00.14
This shows the film has been adapted from a book. This shot is very clever because the shot continues  as if the audience was reading a book and contains features of a book.

00.18
Another clever credit. This time we see the names of the producers in a box surrounded by construction workers building around the names.

0.24
shows the director of photography. The credit changes colour and effect representing a camera.

00.34
This shows the editor of Nerve. It also shows the screen being edited and coded as if someone was editing the credits.

0.43
This shot shows who the music is by, in the format of Soundcloud a music streaming site.

00.54
Stars of the film

1.04

Cape Fear

00.13
This shot shows that universal studios produced the film.

00.30
Another production team involved with the movie

  • 00.43
This shows a reflection on a lake of an eagle which already sets the spooky atmosphere of the movie.

    00.49

    Introduces the actors.

    1.00

Title of the movie. We can see an eye in the bottom left of the shot which again shows the spooky atmosphere.
1.32
Shows who did the casting

1.47
Costume designer

2.13
In this shot we can see the shadow of a mans body which adds a sense of horror and mystery to the opening scenes.  This is potentially foreshadowing what is going to happen later on in the film.

2.22
Producer

2.28
Here the water  is starting to turn red  representing blood. we can also see a blood drop in the back ground. Signifying horror and mystery.

2.31
Director

2.36
This shot shows a  multiple change of colour. We can also see someones eyes.

2.56
This is the first time we see one of the characters.

2.59
The Shot starts to fade now signifying the start of the film.

Back To The Future Part II

 00.03
As the title opens we see the producer's name appear first on screen followed by the director's name. Which is unusual as we normally see the directors name last.

00.08

00.15
Again we usually see the title of the film at the end but here we see it towards the start which could represent the 'Back to the future' element. we also usually read things from left to right but here the title goes from right to left signifying going back it time.

00.21
As the titles continue, it opens to a clock face and we can hear ticking clocks in the background, which again is obviously referring to time as time is the main theme of 'Back To The Future'

00.24
Here we can see one of the actors name. Due to a wider shot we can now see more clocks all showing exactly the same time. This makes us think that time is being carefully observed. We can still hear the ticking noise in the background. More names ofActors and Actresses follow.

00.30

00.38
00.48

00.57

1.02
Here we see a newspaper article cutout of a someones mansion being destroyed. From this shot we can guess that somebody is keeping this cutout as they are not happy and perhaps want to go back in time and stop this from happening. This adds more mystery and suspense about whats going to happen later on.

1.12

We now see an empty bed. The room is very messy which can imply that the person who sleeps here is a very untidy person. During this shot we can also the the casting director.

1.29

We then see some timers and an active coffee machine without a glass in it, and we continue to hear the ticking in the background.

1.45
We suddenly see a tv turn on, to see the news and a story of how some plutonium has been stolen. This makes the audience think why the shot has stopped over this, potentially being key piece of information for the rest of the film.

2.01
The shot continues for us to see more clocks and contraptions, this time seeing an automated toaster and a robot arm opening dog food, this immediately tells me that the person living here must be some sort of scientist or mechanic. This leads us to thinking why does he have all of this.

2.09

2.47
We next see a door open and it seems to be a man with his skateboard, and we hear him say the name 'Doc'. This helps put together what all the clocks and the contraptions were for as we now know it's some sort of Doctor who owns this house.

3.03
After putting his skateboard down, he pushes it under the bed, for us to see a box of plutonium, which now we know why we saw the news report because it now means the 'Doc' stole the plutonium. Although we still don't know why he has this.
